"Jesus Wept" Stage Play Looking for Actors
Audition notice for "Jesus Wept" play. In need of cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the details below. About the project: A play by Brattleboro-based author and playwright Stephen Wangh, imagines Mary and God responding to prayerful supplications from humans confronting challenging situations. When Jesus arrives, God and Mary fear he may not be able to handle difficult human suffering. Sacred and profane disagreements among the divinities culminate in a musical epiphany. Additional info: Auditioners will meet as a group with director. Please prepare a one-minute monologue. Jesus Wept can be performed by five actors onstage, with two actors - or recorded voices--offstage. The roles can be played by actors of any gender, race or ethnicity. But every casting choice will affect how the audience views the play. See doubling notes attached. Rehearsals: Feb. 4-6, 6:00-10:00 p.m. Feb. 9, 2:00-6:00 p.m. Feb. 10-12, 6:00-10:00 p.m. Feb. 15-16, 2:00-6:00 p.m. Feb. 17, 6:00-10:00 p.m. Supporting roles will be called for shorter hours. Jesus' mother. Ageless, though perhaps, she resembles Mary as she is depicted in Renaissance art, or the Mona Lisa.
An old man. He spends most of his time in a wheelchair, but he can walk when he wants to. He might have a slight Yiddish accent, or a British version of a Yiddish accent.
A young man with long hair. He's not exactly a hippy, but certainly more of an artist than his parents. (The actor can also play CASSIE.)
An angel and a servant. Probably, but not necessarily, female. Ageless GABRIEL - An angel and servant, male. (Can also play JOSEPH and ARCHIMIDES.)
Mexican.
Australian, about 50.
Biblical man.
Transgender woman.
Ancient astronomer.
