About the project: Sweeney Todd, recently revived on Broadway with Josh Groban, is a dark and captivating tale of vengeance. After being wrongfully imprisoned, Sweeney Todd returns to London, adopting a new identity and seeking retribution against the corrupt judge who ruined his life. As he reopens his barber shop above Mrs. Lovett's pie shop, a chilling partnership is formed, leading to a macabre and unforgettable storyline. Renowned for its complex score and intricate lyrics, Sweeney Todd explores themes of vengeance, madness, and the delicate balance between civilization and savagery, solidifying its place as a powerful piece within the musical theatre repertoire. Additional info: Participants should prepare a memorized song, at least 32 bars in length, preferably a selection by Stephen Sondheim. Please note that lyric sheets and cell phones are not permitted. Sheet music must be provided, as accompanists will be available. Auditions will also include readings from the script. They are the show's chief storytellers, taking on the roles of customers, townspeople, police, inmates at the insane asylum, Sweeney's thoughts, and Sweeney's victims. They stand in for us and there is a feeling of them always being nearby, watching.
