About the project: You can't stop the beat in this big and bold musical about one girl's inspiring dream to dance. The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network... all without denting her 'do! Rate: This is a non-paid opportunity. Additional info: Headshots and resumes are encouraged but not required. Auditions will consist of vocal, dance, and acting components. (Due to time constraints, the acting component may be reserved for call backs.) HAIRSPRAY is a very heavy, ensemble singing and dancing show. Directors welcome all to audition no matter your experience, just come prepared to MOVE and SANG! Callbacks: November 12th, 2024 at 7 p.m. Rehearsals: The exact rehearsal schedule is to be determined, but rehearsals are usually 2-4 days per week, mostly weekday nights, but there may be rehearsals on Saturdays in the daytime and/or Sundays in the evening. Weekday evening rehearsals generally begin at 7 p.m. and can last as late as 10 p.m. (possibly later during tech week) Sunday evening rehearsals generally begin at 6 p.m. and can last as late as 10 p.m. Not all cast members will be called to every rehearsal. There will be a total of approximately 30 rehearsals for this production, plus tech week. The rehearsal schedule intensifies as opening night draws closer. Tech week rehearsals often run later into the evening. Tech Week: February 23rd - 27th, 2025 Performers MUST be available for all tech week rehearsals and all performances. There are no exceptions. PRODUCTION DATES: February 28th - March 22nd, 2025 Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. Sundays at 2 p.m. Call time for all performers and crew on performance dates is 1 hour prior to showtime. Vocal range top: A4 Vocal range bottom: D3 The charismatic host of the Corny Collins' Show. He is good looking and smooth talking, he is a genuinely nice guy both on and off camera.
Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: F3 Tracy's big and blonde mother. She is a working housewife who has lost her confidence and dream to be a plus-size clothing designer. Boisterous and commanding. This role will be played by a male in drag.
Vocal range top: G5 Vocal range bottom: A3 Tracy's best friend and dorky sidekick. Not the brightest girl, but she has good intentions. Bursting to get free of her mother's dominating control, she falls for Seaweed with childlike curiosity.
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: G3 Amber's mother and the director of Corny Collin's show. She is a devious taskmaster and snobby racist. The former Miss Baltimore Crabs will go to any length to ensure her daughter is the next big thing.
Vocal range top: F5 Vocal range bottom: A3 Link's girlfriend and Tracy's nemesis. She is pretty, thin, shallow, snobby, and racist. Can't dance but is expected to win Miss Baltimore Hairspray. Always feels the need to be the center of attention.
Vocal range top: A5 Vocal range bottom: G3 The star heartthrob on Corny Collins show. He is extremely attractive and talented. Hoping to get his big break with a recording contract, he unexpectedly falls for Tracy.
Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: F3 Tracy's classmate and friend, who is discriminated against due to his skin color. He is cocky but surprisingly lovable. Talented in song and dance. He falls for Penny.
Vocal range top: E5 Vocal range bottom: F3 Seaweed and Little Inez's mother, she also appears as the Guest DJ on the Corny Collins Negro Day show. Big, blonde, beautiful and proud of it. She is sassy and confident.
Vocal range top: A5 Vocal range bottom: A3 Tracy's simple-minded and kind father. He owns a joke shop and supports his daughter in spite of everything else. He also loves his wife, Edna, very much.
Vocal range top: B4 Vocal range bottom: D4 Penny's strict mother. Very conservative, controlling, and closed minded.
