Singing Audition for "Rock of Ages" Musical

Swarthmore, PA, United States
ID: 273320Exp: 12/7/2024
Description:

The company is holding auditions for "Rock of Ages" the ultimate rock musical! and looking for performers, please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace, and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strip’s last legendary venues, a place where rock god Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew Boley dreams of becoming the next big thing – and winning the heart of small-town girl Sherrie Christian, fresh off the bus from Kansas. But when German developers arrive with plans to turn the fabled Strip into a strip mall, Drew, Sherrie, and the gang must fight to save the place – and themselves – with the music of hit bands like Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, and Whitesnake fueling the battle. Rate: This is a non-union, non-paying production. Additional info: Prepare 16 to 32 bars of a song in the style of the show – think 1980s rock! Songs from the show are acceptable. Bring sheet music (an accompanist will be provided) or use a backing track on a Bluetooth speaker (no vocals, please). Dance Call: Be ready to move! Wear comfortable attire for dancing, and you’ll have time to change if needed. Please apply if interested.

11 roles

Drew BoleyMale25-29 y.o.All ethnicities

Lead, Drew, is an appealing, good-guy rocker. He has easy comedic timing, a boyish charm, vulnerability, and a powerful rock tenor voice. Drew works at the legendary Bourbon Room, dreaming of stardom. His instant attraction to Sherrie sets the story in motion. An ability to play guitar is a plus, but not required. (Vocal Range: Bb3 - D5,- soaring rock tenor with versatility in style. Must be able to sing dynamically in style of 80’s rock, while maintaining vocal health and endurance.)

Sherrie ChristianFemale20-24 y.o.All ethnicities

Sherrie is a young, impressionable woman who steps off the bus from Kansas, eager to pursue her dreams of stardom. She’s pretty, fresh-faced and naive, the role requires strong comedic timing. Sherrie’s rock belt and excellent movement/dance ability are essential, and she should be comfortable in revealing clothing. (strong rock belter up to D# with strong low range)

Lonny Barnett:Male30-49 y.o.All ethnicities

Lonny serves both as an employee of the Bourbon Room and as the show’s narrator/theatrical conjurer. He’s charming, mischievous, and has a vibrant personality. Lonny should be a high-energy, physical actor who has excellent comedic timing, improvisational skills (he will be working the crowd), and strong rock vocals. He should also be a good mover. (Vocal range: D3-D5)

Dennis DupreeMale40-49 y.o.All ethnicities

The classic stoner and hippie who runs the famous Bourbon Room club. He’s torn about selling the club to German businessmen. Dennis is laid-back, easy-going, and rocks a bari-tenor voice. (Vocal range: D3-G4)

Stacee JaxxMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

A (once?) sexy rock star who is leaving his (once?) successful band to go solo. Does he look like Axel Rose during peak Guns ‘n’ Roses? Does he look like 1970s, paunchy Elvis? Something else? Open to your version. What he definitely is, regardless of appearance, is self-important, confident, a bit of a jerk, and all about sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll - likely in that order these days. (Vocal Range: C3 - Eb5)

Justice CharlierFemale36-55 y.o.All ethnicities

Traditionally portrayed by a female-presenting actor of color. She is a powerful personality who owns and operates the Venus gentlemen’s club where Sherrie ends up working. She exudes sensuality and takes on a maternal role for her girls - especially Sherrie. Justice provides soulful vocals combined with a powerful belt. (Vocal Range: G3 - Db5)

Hertz KlinemannMale46-65 y.o.All ethnicities

An attractive, older, German businessman trying to buy up the Sunset Strip. He’s uptight, cold, and the “bad guy” of the musical, although he does have an arc. The actor playing Hertz should be able to speak clearly with a German accent. Hertz has strong comedic timing and baritone vocals. (Vocal Range: F3 - G#4)

Franz KlinemannMale25-35 y.o.All ethnicities

Hertz’s son, pressured and intimidated by his father. Franz can put on a flamboyant front, but on the inside is really shy, gentle, and has a big heart. The actor playing Franz should be able to speak clearly with a German accent. Strong vocals and comedic timing are essential. Should also be a strong dancer. (Vocal Range: Db3 - E5)

Regina Koontz:Female25-35 y.o.All ethnicities

A fun, hippie-type activist who protests against the takeover of The Strip. She’s earthy, granola, spirited and clumsy - all at the same time. Regina has strong comedic timing and belt vocals and should also be a solid mover or dancer. (Vocal range: A3-Eb5)

Mayor/Ja’Keith GIll /EnsembleMale20-59 y.o.African-American

A versatile, actor who plays multiple roles. He is a strong rock tenor with flexible range, dance/movement ability, and comedic timing required.

EnsembleMale18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

Strong dancing ability is a plus. Female-presenting actors should be comfortable in revealing clothing. Some notes: The actor playing Waitress #1 needs to be a strong rock belter up to D# with strong low notes. The actor playing Joey Primo should have a strong rock tenor and dance movement ability and may be asked to understudy Drew and/or Stacee. Sherrie’s Mom and dad should be strong, rock, character singers with flexible range.
