He is Fabrizio's slightly older brother. Giuseppe is married to Franca and her match in temperament. He, along with their father, attempts to teach Fabrizio how to impress women. He wants his brother to be happy but in typical older brother fashion is a merciless tease. Giuseppe loves his wife but has a roving eye which makes for a volatile marriage. Tenor Bb2-D4.
Giuseppe's wife. Franca is the embodiment of passionate, Italian femininity. She suspects her husband is cheating on her. She has transitioned from a romantic to a realist regarding her marriage. Sings and speaks primarily in Italian. Also, some accented English. Soprano Bb3-F6.
Fabrizio's father. He is the epitome of a classic Italian gentleman. He is elegant, stylish, impeccable. He is charismatic and warm and owns a haberdashery in Florence. He has a very strong set of values but is taken with Margaret and Clara the same way that Margaret is taken with him. He sings and speaks in Italian as well as English. Baritone with range A2- D4.
Fabrizio's mother. Although she keeps to herself, she is a major proponent of risk taking and enjoys drama for the sake of love and passion. Speaks and sings in Italian, and in unaccented "American" English. Db3-B5; soprano.
Margaret's husband; a successful American businessman who has become wholly enveloped by his work. He is more practical and skeptical than even Margaret, leading to his immobile rejection of Clara and Fabrizio's marriage. Non-singing (excluding ensemble singing.).
