About the project: Shakespeare’s gripping tragedy about a Scottish general who usurps the throne. When Macbeth is given a prophecy that he will become king, his ambition drives him to murder his king and take the throne for himself, spurred on by his equally ambitious and ruthless wife. As Macbeth’s guilt and paranoia grow, his reign becomes increasingly murderous and tyrannical. Ultimately, his grab for power costs him everything – his wife, his friends, his throne, and his life. Exploring themes of the consequences of unchecked ambition, the intoxicating attraction and corrupting influence of power, and the destructive forces of guilt and conscience, Macbeth’s timeless themes are as relevant and resonant today as ever. Using a multimedia approach, our production is set in the ruthless world of social media content creation and applies these timeless and universal themes to the contemporary pursuit of likes and shares, the constant search for public approval and the forces of media manipulation that shape decisions in contemporary society.
