Casting Performers for Two Theatre Plays

The theater is holding auditions for the productions of "Tomás and the Library Lady" and "The Shadow Box" shows. Actors needed. See more details below. About the project: 1. "Tomás and the Library Lady" SYNOPSIS: Tomás, the son of migrant farm workers, meets a librarian who introduces him to the wonderful world of books. The stories enrich the lives of Tomás’s family and instill a love of reading. This is the inspiring true story of Tomás Rivera, who grew up in a migrant worker family, befriended a librarian in Iowa, and learned to love books and the places they took him. Tomás went on to a successful career in academia and became the chancellor of the University of California, Riverside. Adapted from the well-loved book, this play can be readily understood by both English and Spanish speakers. First Rehearsal: Sunday, December 8th Rehearsal Schedule: Sunday and Tuesday Evenings Beginning at 7pm. (Additional Dates may be added if needed) Performance Dates: Saturdays February 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd, 2025 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 16th, 2025 at 2 p.m. Strike Date: Sunday, February 23rd 2. "The Shadow Box" SYNOPSIS: In this compelling dramatic triptych, three terminal cancer patients dwell in separate cottages on a hospital’s grounds. The three are attended and visited by family and close friends: Agnes and her mother Felicity, estranged further by the latter’s dementia; Brian and Beverly, whose marital complications are exacerbated by Brian’s new lover, Mark; and Joe and Maggie, unready for the strain of Joe’s impending death and its effect on their teenage son. First Rehearsal: Monday, December 9th, 2024 Rehearsal Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Evenings Beginning @ 7pm. (Additional Dates may be added, if needed) Performance Dates: Fridays and Saturdays, January 31st, February 1st, 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd, 2025 @ 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, February 9th, 2025 @ 2:00 p.m. Strike Date: Sunday, February 23rd, 2025 Additional info: Directors ask that participants arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and introduce yourself to the stage managers. If you have a headshot and resume, please bring it (not required). There are no audition appointments, and actors will not need prepared monologues. The evening will cover the auditions for both shows, beginning with the Young Audiences Production. During each show’s audition, all actors will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a group setting with the director selecting sides and combinations of participants to read together or independently.
