Seeking performers and singers for the "Dreamgirls" show. Please see the details below. About the project: Based on the story of Diana Ross’ rise to fame, the show has made stars of Tony Award winner Jennifer Holliday and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson. Featuring the hit songs “Dreamgirls,” “And I am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “One Night Only”. Rate: Non-equity, small stipend. Additional info: Please bring a headshot (or recent photo) and a resume of any stage or performing experience. Please prepare a short selection from a Gospel song, ‘Motown inspired’ pop, or rock and roll song of the ’60s, 70’s, or 80’s that is one minute or less. In addition, a one - to two-minute dramatic or comedic monologue. Singing from the show is welcomed. Bring accompaniment music tracks on a personal device. Bluetooth into our sound system will be available. No acapella singing. REHEARSALS: The show will rehearse for approximately seven weeks, with three weekends of performances (October 25 - November 9). The general rehearsal schedule for DREAMGIRLS is weeknights (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) 6:30 pm-9 pm and Sunday afternoons 3-7 pm, beginning September 9. Rehearsals will take place at a combination of Moore Vision Entertainment studio theatre and Garza Studios, and performances will take place at Moore Vision Entertainment studio theatre. A used car salesman who talks himself into becoming ‘The Dreamettes’ Manager. Later becomes Jimmy’s Manager too. Resorts to payola, bribing DJ’s to play his clients music. Dates Effie but eventually marries Deena. Con man, forceful, a cheat, determined. Tenor. Principal role.
A popular RnB star who, over time, loses his fame. Married but has an affair with Lorrell. An outrageous ‘star’ performer. High energy, chaotic. Tenor. Principal role.
Effie’s brother. A songwriter. Principal role. High Baritone.
Jimmy’s Manager. Quits as Jimmy’s Manager when Curtis starts to take over. Later becomes Effie’s Manager and teaches her to rebuild her confidence. Baritone. Principal role.
Effie’s replacement in the dreams. A dynamic singer who fulfills Curtis’ aesthetic image for the Dreams and subsequently replaces Effie in the group. Mezzo soprano.
1 CAUCASIAN MAN AND 2 CAUCASIAN WOMEN - Strong singers who move well to play Dave and The Sweethearts (Pat Boone singer and his backup girls who sing the all American pop version of “Cadillac Car”). Will play other ensemble roles such as reporters, press agents, etc.
Strong singer, character actor to play Frank, the press agent and various supporting roles. Must move well.
