Actors wanted for "A Raisin in the Sun" & "Waiting to be Invited" shows. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the details below. About the project: “A Raisin in the Sun”: Five people across three generations live in a tiny two-bedroom apartment in 1950s Chicago's racially segregated South Side. After the death of Walter Younger, Sr., his family anxiously awaits a $10,000 life insurance check, each seeing it as a ticket to their dreams. Widow Lena ("Mama") wants to buy a house; son Walter Lee wants to open a liquor store; daughter Beneatha dreams of medical school. Walter Lee’s wife, Ruth, is torn but wants the best for their son, Travis. Tensions rise over how to spend the money. “Waiting to be Invited”: In the summer of 1964 in Atlanta, four middle-aged Black women, who work together at a doll factory, take a city bus to a segregated restaurant in a downtown department store. Their aim is to exercise their newly granted civil rights after the Supreme Court's ruling against segregation in dining establishments. This humorous and poignant play has won the Kennedy Center Roger L. Stevens Award for New Playwrights and the Adrienne Kennedy Award for Most Promising Young Dramatist. Rate: Actors will be compensated. Additional info: Auditions will include cold readings from the script. Please be prepared to read for various roles.
