(Higher Voice, Open to all ethnicities and gender identities): A character not of the time or place of the action. The Narrator tells the story through word and song, guiding the audience gently through the story of Joseph and his brothers, usually gives meaning to the story with their words. Strong Singer.

JacobBoth genders50-59 y.o.All ethnicities

(Lower Voice) The father of twelve sons, his favorite being Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognises the future and the calling of Joseph. Doubles as Potiphar.

JosephBoth genders18-56 y.o.All ethnicities

(Lower Voice): Eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father's favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh's dreams.

(Lower Voice): A powerful and rich man. Grows suspicious of Mrs. Potiphar and Joseph, eventually has Joseph thrown into prison. Doubles as Jacob. Potiphar is self-important.

Knows who she is and what she wants. She is charismatic and confident. Strong dancer.

The most powerful figure in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god/goddess on earth. When Joseph interprets his dreams, Pharaoh promotes him to one of the highest positions in the government. A larger than life personality that can command the stage. Confident with ultimate star charisma. Open to different interpretations of how Pharaoh could be represented as long as the role embodies a superstar quality.
