The company is holding auditions for fall production of "Oliver!" and looking for performers, please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. About the project: Consider Yourself at home in Lionel Bart's classic musical based on the Charles Dicken's classic Oliver Twist. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike. The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished, workhouse orphan, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker, eventually escaping, finding himself amongst a group of child pickpockets led by the cunning Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver's chances of discovering the true love of a family. Featuring award winning songs such as: Food Glorious Food, Where is Love?, Consider Yourself, You've Got to Pick a Pocket Or Two, I'd Do Anything, As Long As He Needs Me. Who Will Buy? and Reviewing the Situation, Oliver is a true piece of musical theater history!! Additional info: Callbacks, if necessary, are by invitation only on Saturday July 20th 12:00-3:00PM. Leader of a children's band of pick-pockets/thieves, singer/actor. (vocal range baritone or tenor b3/fb5cockney accent. Described as devious, a user, sly fox, con man, very personable. A conniving career criminal and conman. He takes in homeless children and teaches them to pick pockets for him. Tip: the actor must have strong ability to convey a man of many dimensions: a leader, a vagrant, a father, a teacher, a lost soul and an eccentric.
When she was younger worked for Fagin, now a "barmaid" (serving wench) at the three cripples bar, singer/actor (vocal range alto e3/b4); should have decent movement skills. Cockney accent, pretty, longs for a better life. A graduate of Fagin's "school of thieves" and tragically involved in an abusive relationship with bill Sykes. She is a career thief, hardened and streetwise beyond her years, but also intelligent, caring and good-hearted.
Also worked for Fagin as a youth now a master criminal, the most infamous from Fagin's gang. Actor/singer ((vocal range bass c#3/c4) baritone). Cockney accent. Good looking in a rough sort of way, sociopath, a killer who only looks out for himself. Tip: the actor must be fearsome.
(vocal range baritone c3/a4) the domineering beadle (a minor official who carries out various civil, educational or ceremonial duties) who runs the workhouse. Pompous and self-absorbed, greedy and uncaring. He preaches christian morality, but behaves without compassion towards the paupers in his care. Tip: the actor must be able to be pompous and appear to over-power the other characters on stage. Good comedic timing.
The domineering matron of the workhouse, singer (vocal range soprano c4/e5) / actor. Cockney accent. Sharp tongued widow, also corrupt. A widow, she will do anything to get Mr. Bumble's attention. Tip: a comical role.
(vocal range c4/c5) one of Fagin's former pickpockets. Nancy's friend. Bet looks up to Nancy and is caring and good-natured. Cockney accent. Tip: the actor must be able to portray her devotion to Nancy.
The undertaker, actor/singer (vocal range baritone bb3/f4) (baritone). Cockney accent. Kind of creepy, "buys" Oliver from bumble to work in the funeral home as a coffin follower, may be an alcoholic. Tip: good comedic timing.
The undertaker's wife, actress/singer(vocal range alto or soprano bb4/f5) (mezzo). Cockney accent. More business savvy than her husband. She rules the roost and is stingy and mean-spirited. Tip: good comedic timing as she and Mr. Sowerberry provide some comic relief
Undertaker's apprentice, actor. (non singing role) cockney accent. May have also come from workhouse. He bullies Oliver about his mother and enjoys a flirty relationship with charlotte. A downright bully. Tip: is jealous of Oliver possibly taking over his position.
Older gentleman, stage age range 45-65, actor. British (not cockney) accent. Kind upper class gentleman, is actually Oliver's grandfather. Tip: the actor must be able to convey authority with gentleness and compassion.
A doctor, actor. British (not cockney) accent. Upper class, friend of Mr. Brownlow
A housekeeper. British (not cockney) accent. (vocal range alto c4/bb5) works for Mr. Brownlow. Warm personality. Wise, kind-hearted, cares for everyone and everything. Tip: motherly and kind
