About the project: Fiddler on the Roof is based on Tevye and His Daughters (or Tevye, the Dairyman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem. The story centers on Tevye, a milkman in the village of Anatevka (not far from current day Kyiv, Ukraine), who attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traiditions as outside influences encroach upon his families lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters who wish to marry for love; their choices of husbands are successively less palatable for Tevye and Golde, his beloved wife of 25 years. An edict of the Czar of Russia eventually evicts the Jews from the village and sends them off to new lives in Europe, America, and across the diaspora. FIRST REHEARSAL is SATURDAY, JULY 13, 1 - 6 PM Vocal Auditions Please prepare up to 32 bars of any musical theatre song. An accompanist will be provided. The musical director prefers no cappella auditions. DO NOT SING A SONG FROM THE SHOW! That is for callbacks :) Dance Auditions Please come dressed to dance with the proper footwear. All auditioners will be taught a dance combination at the initial auditions. Should the need arise, there may be additional dance at the callbacks for certain people/roles. The likable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures. The Student The outspoken student and visitor to Anatevka, who constantly challenges the traditions of the town. He eventually falls in love with Hodel. Actor must show intensity and an unfailing commitment to his beliefs.
