About the project: Charbria Shine’s Single Woman Chronicles the Stage Play’s purpose is to encourage single women to thrive in life and to create their own lane despite societal and family pressures to hurry up and settle down because their clock is ticking. It encourages women to find wholeness, joy and self before focusing on love. Single Woman Chronicles tells Kera Kensington’s story, a young woman who is obsessed with love and marriage to her detriment but through a series of events she finds healing, wholeness and life again after a devastating breakup. The play follows Kera and her best friends Mercedes and Tatiana whose experiences with men challenge their self-worth, faith and identity. With “real talk” monologues and fun tunes this play challenges the stigmas associated with being a single woman. Rate: Non Union Paid. (Lead)To play 34. Mercedes Beret is Kera’s best friend whom she’s known for pretty much her entire life. She likes the finer things in life. Mercedes is bougie, has a booming career, makes great money and has an immense amount of sex appeal. Her motto is “I’m No Damsel In Distress.” She is known as the “Sex Kitten” who can get whatever she wants. Even though it appears that Mercedes has it all one incident causes her entire world to tumble down and her life’s philosophy is challenged.
(Lead) To play 40. Tatiana is Kera and Mercedes’ best friends but sometimes feels a little jealous of how close Kera is to Mercedes. She loves fashion but has an urban flair. She would be known to some as “Ghetto Fab”. She is loud and bold and doesn’t apologize for her bluntness. Tatiana is struggling with the fact that she is forty five and still single.
(Support) To play 30s. Romeo is a waiter at Maxie’s which is where Kera, Mercedes and Tatiana hang out frequently. It’s there hangout spot. He’s a romantic and is in love with Kera. He flirts with her every time he gets a chance. He is extremely funny. Even though the girls don’t take him seriously he is very kind, generous, sweet and optimistic. Preferred that actor have improvisation skills and can really bring their own flare to bring this character alive.
(Kera’s Mother) (Support) To play 60. Liz Kensington is a woman of God who has raised Kera according to the Bible and Christian faith. She is strong, confident, direct and honest. In other words, she speaks the truth unapologetically. Liz’s husband passed away some time ago and she is now spending most of her time in ministry and the involvement with her church, Riverside.
(Support)To play 30s. Braxton is one of Kera’s potential love interests. He is attractive and distinguished. He is a strong man of faith who desires to please God with his life and is not ashamed to speak his truth. Braxton is looking for a virtuous woman as he is ready to find the love of his life and settle down. He is no nonsense and serious about honoring God and finding his “Good Thing.” This person could also play the role of Romeo.
(Support) To play 30+. Toni is the main hostess at Maxie’s restaurant. She is nosy, bold and frequently gets in Kera, Mercedes and Tatiana’s business. Toni is very observant and doesn’t miss a thing but this also causes her to have several run ins with the girls. Although she is genuine, she annoys them at times. This person could potentially also play the role of Brooklyn or Jessica.
(Support) To play 30+. Trevor is a potential love interest of Kera. He is attractive, smooth and cunning. He lures Kera in and pretends to be something that he is not. There one and only encounter is far from what Kera had hoped for.
(Support) To play 30+. She is friends with Kera, Mercedes and Tatiana. She is genuinely nice and cares for others. Actor needs to have the ability to dance or move very well. Singing is a plus but lip syncing is an option. (Only in one scene “The Party Scene” Upbeat song in this scene) This person could potentially be an understudy for one of the main characters.
(Support) To play 30+. She is friends with Kera, Mercedes and Tatiana. She is rude and inconsiderate and blurts out what she pleases. Brooklyn is a “mean” girl. Actor needs to have the ability to dance or move very well. Singing is a plus but lip syncing is an option. (Only in one scene “The Party Scene” Upbeat song in this scene) This person could potentially be an understudy for one of the main characters.
