About the project: Plot Synopsis: It’s the year 1989 and trans folx Sass and Brock have been eagerly waiting for their consultation over at the Beaverdicks Medical Place to explore the beginning steps in medically transitioning genders. Upon arriving, they interrupt the gender reveal celebration of Dr. Steamyfrank’s latest medical creation, Poppy. Although the Beaverdick staff claim to support transitioning, they have ulterior motives of reinforcing their own cisgender identities. Much gender policing, trans panic, outing, cannibalism, transphobia and a touch of tap dancing ensues as Sass and Brock realize they will not find the truth in cisgender ideology. Rate: Non union. $100 honorarium for rehearsal period and profit share with $100 base guarantee for performances. Additional information: The Poppy Whorer Picture Show – a 60-minute live-action parody/satire of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And, this time it’s a time warp informed from a trans perspective. The production will be staged at the Hamilton Fringe Festival, July 18-28, 2024. Singing and dancing required. Strong comedic talent, camp sensibility, or familiarity with drag/queer theatre are bonuses. Familiarity with the source material since many songs will be a parody of the original Rocky Horror Picture Show. Lived experience as a trans or queer artist an asset. Please note all roles are for ages 18+ and this is an adult-content-rated production. Preparation: if called for an audition, please prepare a 1 – 3 minute comedic monologue and one minute of a song. Rehearsal time period: Rehearsals will be held on a regular basis from May 26 to July 17. 7 Performances at the Player’s Guild, July 17th – 28th, 2024.
