The company is holding auditions for "Fences" and looking for performers, please see the details below. About the project: Fences takes place in 1957 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The play follows Troy Maxson, a 53-year-old man who struggles to provide for his wife and son in a time when slavery is over but the civil rights movement has still not come to fruition. He used to be an amazing baseball player but was not able to make it to the Major Leagues due to the color of his skin. Troy has had to settle into the life of being a trash collector and barely scraping by, and this causes a lot of turmoil and frustration, especially in his relationships. August Wilson’s play deals with dreams deferred and what it means to be a man, as well as covering themes of family and loyalty. Rate: Non-Equity. There is no pay. Additional info: Date and Time: Wednesday, March 27th 7pm by invitation only. REHEARSALS: First Read-Through: Monday, April 1st Regular Rehearsal: Starts Tuesday, April 2nd – Thursday, May 16th Monday through Thursday nights, 7:00p – 10:00p. Saturdays 10:00a – 3:00p AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Bring a headshot and resume. Prepare a monologue no more than two minutes. RUN: Preview Night Friday May 17th, Opening Night Saturday May 18th and runs through Sunday, June 9th Fridays & Saturdays 8pm, Sundays at 2pm, One Thursday night performance on May 30.

Troy’s wife and mother of his second child, Cory. A housewife who volunteers at her church regularly and loves her family. Rose’s request that Troy and Cory build a fence in their small, dirt backyard comes to represent her desire to keep her loved ones close. Rose is a realist, not a romantic longing for the bygone days of yore. She has high hopes for her son, Cory, and sides with him in his wish to play football.

Lyons MaxsonMale30-40 y.o.All ethnicities

Troy’s son from a previous relationship. Lyons is an ambitious and talented jazz musician. He grew up without Troy for much of his childhood because Troy was in prison. Lyons has a difficult time making a living.

Gabriel MaxsonMale40-55 y.o.All ethnicities

Troy's brother. Gabriel was a soldier in the Second World War, during which he received a head inquiry that required surgery. Gabriel wanders around the neighborhood carrying a basket and singing. He believes he is the angel Gabriel who opens the gates of heaven with his trumpet on Judgment Day. Gabriel exudes a child-like exuberance and a need to please. Some singing.

Jim BonoMale45-60 y.o.All ethnicities

Troy’s best friend of over thirty years. Bono and Troy met in jail, where Troy learned to play baseball. He is married to Lucille who is friends with Rose. Bono is a devoted husband and friend.
