About the project: It’s the 1600’s and women are banned from the stage, but the suppressed female mind is finding it difficult to stay…well, suppressed. Behind the dingy walls of The Cage Tavern, six women explore the seductive power of the theatre. With a musical score influenced by underground European Cabaret, the women embrace their creativity, their voice, and their freedom. However, the law is not on their side, and if these artists are to truly have a voice, they must find the courage to get beyond the walls and in front of an audience. Rate: Artists will be engaged under a CAEA Indie 2.2 Contract. Additional information: The musical style of Miss Shakespeare is inspired by Underground European Cabarets. This production deals with a variety of sensitive topics including, gender inequality, sexuality, sexual desire, miscarriages, and our physical bodies. Please read the script so you are aware of the content you will be working with. Time for Questions and conversation will be included in your audition. Vocal Range: Mezzo. Considered a tom-boy, the youngest with 9 older brothers, wild and fearless. She is physically unimposing, but fierce. Doubles as Thomas Quiney.
Vocal Range: Soprano. Socially awkward, pretty, married but remains a sexually deprived virgin. Desperately wants that to change. Doubles as Thomas Quiney.
Vocal Range: Mezzo. Kind, quirky, hidden underneath a gentle demeanor is an overwhelming feeling of loss and disappointment. Katherine is childless and has suffered many miscarriages. Doubles as Thomas Quiney.
Vocal Range: Alto Belt. Considered odd. She is a “bastard” and an outcast from society. She is deeply secure in the awareness of who she is and passionately challenges preconceptions. Doubles as Thomas Quiney.
