"Nunsense" The Musical Looking For Cast
Theatre announces open auditions for "Nunsense" The Mega Musical Version. Seeking cast. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please see the breakdown below. About the project: Following a tragic cooking disaster, the Little Sisters of Hoboken must raise money to put the convent back in order. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease,” and all heaven breaks loose! Rate: This is a non-paid opportunity. Additional info: No experience is necessary. All roles are open. All are encouraged to audition. If no age range is listed, then it is flexible. Headshots and resumes are encouraged but not required. What to Prepare: Auditions will consist of vocal, dance, and acting components. (Due to time constraints, the acting component may be reserved for call backs.) While most roles require singing and dancing , some do not. Please specifically note if you do not wish to sing or dance, and please understand this will limit the roles you can be considered for. Vocals: Please prepare close to a 60 second cut of a musical theatre song in the style of the show that showcases your range and acting skills. Please bring an mp3 track or youtube karaoke track cued up on your phone/smart device. No A CAPPELLA or sheet music auditions. Dancing: The dance session will include learning a brief dance combo. Some tap dancers (and at least one ballerina) are needed in the show, so please note on the form if you have those skills. Time will be reserved at the end of the dance call for these specialized dancers. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Acting: The acting portion of the audition will include cold readings from the script. Directors will be looking for comedic timing and interpretation. The acting component may be reserved for callbacks only. Callbacks (if necessary): Tuesday, December 5th at 7 p.m. Rehearsals: The exact rehearsal schedule is to be determined, but rehearsals are usually 3-4 days per week, mostly weekday nights, but there may be rehearsals on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Rehearsals on weeknights generally begin at 7 p.m. Rehearsals on Sunday evenings generally begin at 6 p.m. Times vary for any weekend daytime rehearsals. The rehearsal schedule intensifies as opening night draws closer. Tech week rehearsals often run later into the evening. PRODUCTION DATES: March 1st – 17th, 2024 Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm Tech Week: February 25th - 29th, 2024 Performers MUST be available for all tech week rehearsals and all performances. (40+) (Mother Superior): A feisty, Sophie Tucker-type who can't resist the spotlight. Vocal Range B3 – F5
(30+) (Mistress of Novices): Hubert oversees the novices but fancies herself a Mother Superior and is in constant competition with Mary Regina. Vocal Range G3 – F5. Dance: Tap desirable.
(late 20’s+) (Streetwise Nun from Brooklyn). A constant source of aggravation for the Mother Superior. Vocal Range G3 – D5. Dance: Tap desirable.
(20+) (Nun who lost her memory) Lost her memory after a crucifix fell on her head. She is very sweet. Vocal Range Db4 – C6. Dance: Tap desirable. Extra: Puppetry and ventriloquism a plus.
(Nun who wants to be a ballerina) The novice nun coming to terms with giving up "civilian" life, she deems herself quite the ballerina. Vocal Range G#3 – G5. Dance: Pointe ballet desired, Tap a plus.
(Female Presenting, 25+) (The Convent Cook) A big boisterous caricature of the real-life chef, Julia Child. Vocal Range D4 – C5.
(A Teacher) A member of the convent with a nice personality. Vocal Range A3 – E4.
(A Teacher) Another member of the convent with a nice personality (but in a different way than Sister Mary Brendan). Vocal Range C4 – G4.
(30+) (Convent Nurse) The school nurse, harried with all that has been happening. Vocal Range D4 – B4
(30+) (Covent Chaplain) Sr. Leo’s Brother/Sister. Vocal Range G3 – B4.
(Stagehand) Running the “show” – good energy, always trying to do the right thing. Vocal: Singing is not required for this role but can sing with the chorus.
(25+) Conductor – will be the conductor who will pretend to direct the band throughout the show. She will be on stage throughout the show. Vocal: Singing is not required for this role but can sing with the chorus.
