"Wine & Halva" Play In Search of Performers

About the project: Three narrators guide their audience through an intimate epic of an unusual friendship between two protagonists: Farias, a white gay man from a fictional North-American city, where he finds himself trapped in a low-pay menial service job with little hope for the future; and Derya, a Turkish woman who emigrates to North America and, to her surprise, becomes a visible minority, which forces her to deal with many invisible cases of institutional discrimination. Rate: Union and non-union. This is a professional non-union production paying Equity rates. Coffee/tea and snacks will be provided. Additional information: Rehearsal Period: April 7- May 1, 2024. Performance (in Montreal): May 2-12, 2024. Time: between 4 pm and 8 pm. Location: Montreal (TBA). Audition Process: The audition will be done in a group setting. Individual call-backs may follow. The audition process will comprise: - Circle of Introductions - Cold Reads - Comedy Improvisations - Movement Please wear comfortable attire that allows for free movement. Directors are looking for versatile performers aged 20-45 who are interested in playing multiple characters as well as learning to perform in the Middle-Eastern meddah theatre tradition (a form of dramatic storytelling). The actors should be comfortable performing in English. Note that in each of the scenes the actors switch roles: everyone gets to perform Narrator, Derya and Farias as well as create a number of comedy club characters mocking the current political and social structures that support inequality.
