An American songwriter/performer, Carole has been active from the 1960’s and regarded as the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century. Male Presenting Character, Voice Part: Tenor (C3-G4). Carole King’s first husband and song writing partner, writing lyrics to many of her early hits, such as “Some Kind of Wonderful,” “Take Good Care of My Baby,” and many others. Female Presenting Character, Voice Part: Mezzo Soprano (F3-E5). A lyricist working at the Brill Building, she and her song writing partner Barry Mann form a friendly rivalry with Carole and Gerry. She becomes one of Carole’s best friends and closest confidants and forms a flirtatious relationship with Barry though she is hesitant to start it, knowing how he is with other women in the past. Male Presenting Character, Voice Part: Tenor (C3-A4). A song writer working at the Brill building. Barry is full of energy, a bit of a flirt, and confident. He falls quickly in love with his lyricist Cynthia Weil and spends some time convincing her to marry him, while trying not to die from his anxiety and hypochondria. Male Presenting Character, Voice Part: Bass/Baritone (A2-C4). A successful record producer & music publisher working at the Brill Building. He originally hires Carole, Gerry & Cynthia and helps foster the friendly rivalry between the teams of Goffin/King and Mann/Weil. He’s stone-faced, to-the-point, maybe a little gruff, but a softy at heart who cares about his writers. Mostly non-singing but will be required to sing in ensemble numbers. Non-dancing role. Female Presenting Character. Carole’s mother. A stereotypical mid-century mother who is brash and un-hip at points, but always steps up to the plate for her daughter. We mostly see the tough love parts of her, but eventually see the softer side when Carole is in need of her tender side. Some singing in larger ensemble numbers. Non-dancing role. Female Presenting Character, Voice Part: Alto. A pop singer, notably performing the hit “One Fine Day.” An artist whom Carole and Gerry write music for. Female Presenting Character, Voice Part: Alto w/ High Extension. A pop singer who begins working as a babysitter/nanny for Carole and Gerry’s daughter. When Carole and Gerry struggle to find the right person to perform Carole’s latest tune “Locomotion,” they realize Little Eva is the perfect fit. Fully equipped with military-grade emotional defenses, which mask the pain she struggles with over her older brother Danny’s death at the beginning of her senior year of high school. Male Presenting Character, Country baritone or bari-tenor, top E. Jenna’s ex- boyfriend from high school, Joe’s best friend, son of the Mayor. Driven, solid, one of the good guys. Smart and diligent. He stayed in Harmony to run his mom’s hardware store because he thinks the town’s special and he’s now eager to prove that was the right call. Carries a torch for Jenna and doesn’t hide it well. Dustin’s mother/father. Proud of their son and of this town. Fiercely dedicated to pulling Harmony out of its economic doldrums, but not necessarily the most innovative thinker. G2-C#4

Female Presenting Character, Country mezzo-soprano. Jenna’s younger sister. Highly intelligent, a little socially awkward, doesn’t necessarily fit into the Harmony milieu. She’s always lived in Jenna’s shadow, where she has only recently begun to chafe. F#3-C#5

Through his journey he explores the many facets and complexities of his sexuality, politics, and artistic goals.) Female Presenting Character, A landlady who rents rooms to Cliff, Sally, and several other characters in her large flat. She is alone and is resigned to her place in life, but secretly longs for companionship. Female Presenting Character, A young maid at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee; she is charming, confident, and MLK’s equal; snd although deeply human and vulnerable, there is much more to her than is first revealed; she owns the power of her convictions and sensuality, with an “otherworldly” strength; carries a secret.
