Shrek The Musical is going back out on the road to dazzle and delight fairy tale creatures across the country. This new production of a family favorite will place an enchanting focus on storytelling with an imaginative and theatrical approach to the material. Seeking performers of ALL ages, sizes, ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities to bring these beloved characters to life. Rate: Salary: Principals $750/wk, Ensemble $650/wk plus $350/wk per diem. Additional info: November Work Session Dates: sometime between November 3rd - November 21st, 2023 Rehearsal Start Date: January 22, 2024 - February 16th, 2024 (NYC) Tech February 18th - 25th, 2024 (Out of town tbd) Opening Night February 26th, 2024 (Out of town tbd) The tour is currently booked through January 2025. Our story’s title character. A big, green, terrifying Ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. He begins as a grumpy hermit but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. Baritenor. Vocal range: A2 – G#4
The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an Ogre every night when the sun sets. She is rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. Mezzo Soprano with Belt-Mix. Vocal Range: F3-G5
A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad’s guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek’s looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but with an optimistic heart. Tenor. Vocal Range: C3-B4
18+: (18+ to play 25-40s, 5’6 & under) The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. They are in search of a princess to marry so that they can become king. They have an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of their father. They are self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. There is an “oiliness” about them. Baritone. Vocal range: B2-D5. *Keys can be adjusted for the performer based on vocal type. Preferably seeking a performer 5’4 or shorter for this track.
A Dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as a glorified babysitter. This track will play other roles. Alto belt. Vocal Range: F3-Eb5
A gingerbread “man” initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. Their wit and resolution help them both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. This track will play other roles. Soprano/Mezzo/Alto/Countertenor. Vocal Range: B3-C#5
The leader of the fairytale creatures. Performer will operate an animated puppet whose nose grows every time they lie. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. Seeking a performer with puppeteer experience, who can embody the spirit of Pinocchio through use of the puppet for this track. Soprano/Mezzo/Alto/Countertenor. Vocal Range: E3-F#4
18+: (18+ to play 9yr old) Princess Fiona as a little girl. May double as Young Shrek, Baby Bear, or Grumpy Dwarf. Soprano with belt.
18+: (to play teen) Princess Fiona as a teenager. May double as a fairytale creature. Soprano with belt.
