Professional Casting for "The Song of the Nightingale" Show

About the project: When Mei Lin, an ambitious kitchen-maid, hears that the emperor of china is searching for the nightingale – the bird whose song brings hope to the people of the land, she offers to help find and capture the bird in exchange for a lofty promotion. This transaction has tragic consequences, however, as mei lin soon learns that the emperor is a foolish ruler who cannot see beyond the bird's plain outer appearance. Based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, the song of the nightingale is a magical, musical romp that reminds us that true beauty and worth is always found within. Rate: All roles open, Non-AEA. A gas stipend will be offered to performers in this production. Additional info: Callbacks are by invitation only on February 18, 2023. ALL conflicts from March 23rd through April 14th MUST BE NOTED. Rehearsal Dates: Rehearsals will begin (approximately, depending on cast conflicts) on March 26 and are generally Saturdays at 10:00 am-3:00 pm, Sundays at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, and Monday through Thursday nights at 7:30 pm -10:30. You will not be called to all rehearsals. Performance Dates and Times: Friday, April 28 - Sunday, May 14, 2023 Fridays & Saturdays: 8 pm, Saturday & Sunday Matinees: 2 pm - Totaling 10 performances. Video audition: Please record yourself singing 16 to 32 bars WITH accompaniment, NO A CAPPELLA. You can sing a song in the style of the show or from the show. When applying, please include the audition form (attached below), your headshot, and your resume with your video audition. The submission deadline is Saturday, February 11 at 8 pm.

Mezzo with a strong mix and belt. Strong-willed and outspoken, she is the only one with courage enough to tell the Emperor the truth about things.
Baritone. Childishly brash and temperamental. He is not mean- spirited, just obliviously immature.
Female dancer. She is the spirit of the show, at once playful and full of deep wisdom. Meek, yet powerful.
Lyric baritone. A fisherman in love with MEI LIN.
Mezzo. The Emperor’s older sister who really runs the show, but is not yet able to stand up for herself.
Tenor. Emperor’s Lord-in-Waiting and the Palace Aesthetician. He’s fabulous.
Tenor/dancer. A mechanical, boy-band-esque bird. Also plays various ENSEMBLE roles.
Mother to TAI YUN and XIAO HAI. Also plays various ENSEMBLE roles.
Older actor, a nervous person. Also plays various ENSEMBLE roles.
Dancer. A spirit.
