10 roles
A sea weathered captain of the ship that meets Victor in the vast tundra while he’s fleeing the Creature, a storyteller, the string throughout the entire plot to connect it all and the only character other than Victor tied to reality and the present day. He is our guide into the strange and unusual.
Frenzied and wild, but also fearful and vulnerable, a character able to switch between emotions quickly, while still delivering a powerful, sobering performance. His words have purpose, immense meaning, clear distinctions between his love for the Creature and his love for Elizabeth and his family. He will be pushed to extremes in acting to portray his madness.
A wealthy nobleman, the father of Victor, a family man concerned with the safety and happiness of his son above all, not interested in his creation or experiments.
Victor’s younger brother and quite the opposite of Victor. A nobleman who follows the rules of society, connected to his brother by love and a familial bond, but like his father, isn’t interested in his brother’s experiments.
Victor’s fiancé, in love with the mad doctor but stern in his proposal for marriage. She tries to keep his attention as it wanders off to his experiments and Creature. A strong, resolute woman of the time, someone who can command and ground the stage as a powerful female presence among a chaotic storyline.
A complex being, someone who needs to learn and grow onstage in front of the audience from his first breath. Emotional and contemplative, thoughtful and vengeful, must possess a wide range of emotions and have the ability to act toward extremes. Physicality is very important, must be ok with movement, and lifting, preferably someone with a more commanding presence (i.e. tall and with a stronger build)
Head of the peasant family and struggling to feed them, sees the Creature not as an angel (as his daughter suggests) but perhaps instead someone there to hurt them and his household, skeptical and foreboding. Must be ok with stylized movement and acting to extremes. *Doubles as a generous villager in Act 2
Wife of the peasant father, the opposite of the father in her thoughts, she thinks the Creature is a blessing and sign of good fortune. Must be ok with stylized movement and acting to extremes. *Doubles as a different peasant in Act 2
The almost blind grandfather to the peasant family, religious, heightened senses due to his blindness and questioning of the circumstances surrounding his family, has worked his entire life for others. Must be ok with stylized movement and acting to extremes. *Doubles as a kind villager in Act 2
The remaining ensemble roles. These will all round out the cast, and be played by one person. They must be able to distinguish between parts and bring something unique and different to each role they play. Must be ok with stylized movement and acting to extremes.
