ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. Looking for 5 actors with experience or willingness to learn who can interpret a range of roles in "Pie Nine" play. Please see the details below. Additional information: 2027 Festival St-Ambroise Fringe de Montréal. This includes 1 Francophone actor, 2 moderately bilingual actors, and 2 anglophones. Some roles can be performed by any gender or as a drag role. While 2 characters are meant to be "university age," age for the casting is generally flexible. The exact showtimes will be announced later, but the festival takes place from June 9th to June 20th and actors must be available and in Montréal for these evenings. If enough actors are cast, potentially one performance will be an "understudy night." If interested, please apply.

William is the jaded and grumpy manager of the Pie-IX pizzeria. After finishing his visual arts program at Dawson College, he has been unable to find work in his field. Being a manager pays well, and he needs the money; while he doesn’t love his work, he has an appreciation for it and is loyal to the restaurant. He has hired a younger acquaintance from the College, Jeremy, to help out in the kitchen. While a native English speaker, William speaks some French as well.
Jeremy is an energetic, young arts student at Dawson College working at the Pie-IX pizzeria. He has just started the job this summer and knew William vaguely from school. A little naïve, Jeremy just wants to do a good job and help William. Like William, Jeremy is a native anglophone who knows some French as well.
Jean Roberge works for the Office québécois de la langue française, the government’s language regulator and his job is to ensure French is being used predominantly across Montréal. Roberge truly believes in the work of the Office. As a born-and-raised Québécois, Roberge is a native francophone but understands English, even if he avoids speaking it; moreover, he has notions of, and respect for, the Catholic faith. He is a strict and harsh bureaucrat.
Based on the biblical Virgin Mary, Mary is the pious mother-to-be in the play. A unilingual anglophone from Beaconsfield, a small town in the West of Montréal Island, she is lost with her husband, Joseph, in east Montréal looking for an elusive family doctor. She believes that God will help her, but time is running out as she is pregnant and going to deliver at any moment.
Based on the biblical Saint Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary, Joseph is the pious and loyal husband of Mary. He is also a unilingual anglophone working to get himself and Mary back to the West Island, knowing that their baby is coming any minute now. He doesn’t hesitate to see God staring back at him through layers of mozzarella and tomato sauce.
