"Straggler" Film Project Needs Actors

LEAD A bright but deeply uncertain high school senior and florist’s son who has lived in the same small town his entire life. Theo has earned a scholarship to leave for college, but the thought of abandoning his father and the two people closest to him fills him with guilt. Rather than admit what he wants, he quietly throws away his commitment form and avoids making the decision altogether. Comparable tone: Angus Tully in The Holdovers.

LEAD A spirited, confident high school senior preparing to possibly leave home for good. Funny, teasing, affectionate, and direct, Fran is the energetic center of the trio and the person most capable of keeping the boys grounded. Although she deeply loves Theo, she refuses to sacrifice the future she has chosen for herself.

LEAD Theo’s lifelong best friend: funny, restless, and seemingly incapable of approaching a serious moment without a joke. A self-described C-minus student remaining in town for community college, Lloyd has spent senior year filming the trio’s memories on Super 8 in an attempt to preserve the life they are about to lose.

SUPPORTING The warm, dry-witted owner of a small-town flower shop and a devoted single father who wants Theo to accept his college opportunity, even though it means losing both his son and his help at the shop. Financially strained but never self-pitying, he gently encourages Theo without forcing the decision. The emotion of the role lives primarily in what he understands but chooses not to press.

SUPPORTING Theo’s school counselor. Practical, authoritative, and genuinely concerned, she warns Theo that his scholarship and college acceptance will disappear if he fails to submit his commitment form by the deadline. The performance should create urgency without making her feel harsh or antagonistic. Four lines total. This role will work in person and may appear on camera.
