A charming, clever, and ambitious young man who discovers he is ninth in line to inherit the prestigious D’Ysquith fortune. Determined to improve his station, he systematically eliminates the relatives standing between him and the title of Earl. Requires exceptional comic timing, charisma, and the ability to carry much of the show. Vocal Range: Tenor/High Baritone (Bb2–Bb4)
Monty’s beautiful, sophisticated, and deliciously self-interested lover. She genuinely cares for Monty but values wealth and social position too much to marry him when he is poor. Witty, glamorous, flirtatious, and emotionally complicated. Vocal Range: Soprano (F#3–G#5)
Monty’s distant cousin and eventual romantic interest. Proper and refined on the surface, but spirited, intelligent, and surprisingly adventurous underneath. Requires a strong legit soprano with excellent comedic instincts. Vocal Range: Soprano (B3–C#6)
A mysterious former servant of Monty’s mother who reveals the secret of his D’Ysquith ancestry and sets the entire plot into motion. Sharp, eccentric, and mischievous, with a strong sense of theatricality. Vocal Range: Alto (Eb3–E5)
A highly versatile group portraying servants, mourners, society figures, tourists, guards, townspeople, courtroom figures, and numerous other characters. The ensemble functions almost like a comic Greek chorus, frequently commenting on and propelling the action. Strong legit singing, precise diction, character work, and sophisticated comedic timing are essential. Vocal Range: SATB Ensemble
