Theater Audition for "The Snow Queen" Play

About the play: Inspired by the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that also inspired Disney's Frozen, The Snow Queen is a funny, magical, and heartwarming adventure filled with talking flowers, mischievous robbers, magical creatures, icy villains, and one very determined young girl. When Kay is taken away to the Snow Queen's Ice Castle, timid Gerda sets off on an extraordinary journey to rescue her best friend. Along the way, she encounters a colourful cast of characters and discovers that a warm heart can melt even the coldest ice. Additional information: Rehearsals will take place once a week from September 26–December 13, with students rehearsing on either Saturday (Snow Cast) or Sunday (Sun Cast) depending on their cast assignment. Location: Downtown Ottawa. Generally 2:00–5:00 PM. Production Week: January 9–16, 2027. Cast members must be available for the entire production week. Each cast will perform a minimum of three times during our production week. Lead. Timid, kind-hearted, and incredibly determined, Gerda is the heart of our story. When her best friend Kay is taken by the Snow Queen, Gerda refuses to give up on him. Her journey takes her through a strange and magical world filled with danger, adventure, and unexpected friends. Ultimately, it is Gerda's warmth, forgiveness, and courage that save the day.
Supporting. Gerda's best friend and cousin, Kay is transformed after a shard of the magical mirror becomes lodged in his eye. Suddenly cold, cynical, and unpleasant, he is whisked away to the Snow Queen's Ice Castle. Kay offers an opportunity for an actor to explore a character who changes dramatically throughout the story.
Supporting. Elegant, mysterious, and powerful, the Snow Queen rules over her frozen kingdom. She is determined to surround the world with coldness—but beneath her icy exterior is a character capable of transformation. A great role for an actor who loves commanding the stage!
Supporting. Bold, mischievous, and full of attitude, Freckle is one of the young robbers Gerda encounters on her journey. She's tough, energetic, and not afraid to cause a little trouble!
Supporting. Quick-witted, energetic, and delightfully mischievous, the Arctic Fox becomes an unexpected companion on Gerda's adventure. This is a fun character role for a performer with lots of personality and physical energy.
Supporting. The Crow is a know-it-all who always seems to have something to say! This eccentric and comedic character brings plenty of personality to the stage and is perfect for an actor who enjoys playing larger-than-life characters.
Supporting. At first glance, Flora seems like a charming and welcoming old woman, but there's something much stranger hiding beneath the surface. A wonderfully theatrical role with plenty of opportunities for character work and comedy.
ENSEMBLE & FEATURED ROLES. The Snow Queen's magical icy imps! The Flurries are mischievous, energetic, and a major part of the magical world of the show. Students cast as Snow Flurries will also participate in dance choreography. Ballet experience is a plus!
ENSEMBLE & FEATURED ROLE. Ringleader of the Robbers. The fearless leader of a rowdy gang of robbers. Hagiba is bold, commanding, and full of personality.
ENSEMBLE & FEATURED ROLE. Magical Garden Characters. A collection of colourful, theatrical flowers who bring Gerda's journey to life. These roles offer lots of opportunities for physicality, personality, and ensemble work.
