4 roles
A no-nonsense fisherman and head of the Van Der Meer fishing company, a small family business currently competing with the Dutch herring fleets/bigger commercial vessels.
Earnest, good at heart, and deeply strange, with some movement tics - we’d probably say he had a raging case of ADHD today. Forgetful, repeats himself a lot, is a little scared of his dad and wants to please him. Loves his younger sister but finds her too stubborn.
Younger sister to Klaus and daughter to Johan. Does NOT fit into the traditional “train to be a mother and a fisherman’s wife” role expected of her. Loves exploring, wants to learn how to sail, and has a hyperfocused interest in the nature surrounding their little cove. Very good at navigation and remembering facts.
Feminine-presenting. Scary. Ageless. A loner but a lonely one/not by choice. Angry that her friends, the fishes and the birds and the crabs, are being hunted to extinction. Turned mermaid to siren out of desperation.
