Craving unlimited knowledge and influence, John Faustus makes a literal deal with the devil: 24 years of magic and power in exchange for his mortal soul. At first, the bargain feels thrilling, but as time runs out, Faustus is forced to confront the true cost of his ambition. Darkly funny, provocative, and surprisingly modern, Doctor Faustus explores what happens when the cost of power is everything. Pay: $250 stipend. Union and Non-Union performers welcome. Additional information: Doctor Faustus will play at the Vancouver Fringe Festival, performing September 10-20, 2026 on Granville Island. Rehearsals will be in the evenings and weekends in July and August, 2-4 times a week. When applying, please submit a head shot and resume and mention which role(s) you think you are right for. Directors will contact you to set up an audition time. Please be prepared to read from sides (provided in advance) and to perform a 1-2 minute classical monologue of your choice.

Male-presenting. John Faustus is a brilliant but arrogant scholar who becomes dissatisfied with the limits of scholarly knowledge. Hungry for power, pleasure, and ultimate understanding, he makes a pact with the devil, trading his soul for magical abilities and worldly rewards. Although intelligent and ambitious, Faustus is deeply flawed by pride, insecurity, and an inability to repent.
Three roles. These three actors play a combined 30+ characters, so we are looking for versatile character actors who can create a distinct persona with just a few strokes. Strong physical and vocal transformation skills are essential. Experience with heightened text, clowning, comedy, and/or physical theatre is an asset.
