Theatre Casting Call for "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

The king of the Fair Folk, Dark Elves, Changelings, and all other magical creatures. Oberon fancies himself a fair ruler but can be rather stubborn when it comes to getting what he wants (and being something of a God, he usually does). He is deeply in love with his wife Titania, but when she doesn't give him what he wants, he decides to mess with her using magic in response. He is not without sentimentality, and does attempt to help the lovers in the forest.

The queen of the fairies. Titania loves her husband, but does not kowtow to him like the other spirits, despite being his wife. When she refuses his request for one of her subordinates, she is then enchanted to fall in love with the first thing she sees, which turns out to be Nick Bottom with the face of an ass.

A young lady of Athens who was once betrothed to Demetrius, who abandoned her when he fell for Hermia. Helena has a lack of self-confidence and believes at times that any positive affection towards her is mocking her, to the point where accidental magic in the forest convinces her that everyone is against her.

A young, rather arrogant man of Athens, who desires Hermia's hand in marriage. He was betrothed to Helena previously, but abandoned her when he fell in love with Hermia. He pursues Lysander and Hermia to the Forest where he falls victim to Puck's magic.

A young man of Athens who is in love with Hermia, but cannot marry her openly, as her father desires for her to marry Demetrius. Lysander is very passionate about his love for Hermia, even though his passion can get in the way of his thinking. He flees with Hermia to the forest and accidentally winds up falling in love with the wrong person thanks to misapplied magic.

The daughter of Egeus. Hermia is in love with Lysander and a childhood friend of Helena. She steals away with Lysander to the forest, and gets caught up in the magical chaos. Hermia is also rather self conscious about her short stature, and can alternatively became depressed or furious when pressed about it.

The Duke of Athens, who follows the law to the letter, but is not without mercy or concern. This part may be doubled with Oberon.

The Queen of the Amazons, who due to defeat in battle with Theseus, is now engaged to marry him. This part may be doubled with Titania.

An overconfident weaver who has been chosen to play the male lead in a performance for the Duke. He is very confident in himself despite his lack of ability or knowledge. He frequently gives bad direction, messes up words or phrases, and likes the attention on himself. Is temporarily given the head of an ass, but is never aware of it.

A carpenter and the leader of the troupe of actors set to perform for the Duke. Peter wishes to be the voice of reason, but in addition to having absolutely no theater experience himself, is frequently challenged by Bottom.

A bellows minder, forced to play the female lead in the play despite having a beard coming in. He speaks his lines in the play with a squeaky falsetto.

A tinker who winds up playing the part of the Wall in the play, with a performance just as stiff as a wall.

A tailor who plays Moonshine in the play. He uses a lantern in the play and is widely mocked for it.

A joiner who plays the part of the Lion in the play. He is self conscious about his ability to learn lines and then about possibly scaring the audience.

Hermia's old fashioned father who insists that she marry Demetrius instead of Lysander. He invokes Athenian law which states that she must listen to him or die.

Theseus's Master of the Revels, responsible for gathering the Wedding Evening's Entertainment.

Titania's entourage of Fairies whom attend on Nick Bottom when Titania falls in love with him.

A child of Oberon who is essentially his right hand man. While Robin doesn't go out of his way to directly disobey Oberon, his nature as a trickster extends to everyone, as his favorite thing in the world is messing with others. He is not outwardly malicious, but does not often have much thought for those he messes with. He is also a master of disguise, using his ability as a changeling to shape-shift into anyone if he feels like it.
