"The Taming of the Shrew" Play Seeking Actors
Casting actors for production of "The Taming of the Shrew", at Shakespeare in the Park. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE CONSIDERED. See the details below. About the project: Societal expectations clash in this comedy, as Kate and Petruchio battle in a war of wit and willpower. Love, marriage, power dynamics, and mistaken identities all come into play in one of Shakespeare's most famous comedies. Rate: $1,000.00 per gig. Actors will be paid a stipend for their participation. Additional info: Non-Equity actors only. Callbacks will be either in person or live via Zoom. Rehearsals are July 6-8, 13-15, and July 20-August 4, in Westfield, NJ. Performances are August 5-6 in Westfield, NJ and August 7 in Metuchen, NJ. Baptista & Curtis: Baptista – the good-natured parent to Kate and Bianca. Baptista is desperate to find a suitor for Kate, who he believes must get married before Bianca does. Curtis – A gossip who wants all the news. Works for Petruchio and in charge of his household.
Hortensio & Biondello: Hortensio – One of Bianca’s suitors, who disguise himself as a music teacher to win her affection. He ends up marrying the Widow. Biondello – Works for Lucentio, and assists Lucentio and Tranio in carrying out their plot.
Tranio & Tailor: Tranio – Lucentio’s wry and comical servant who plays an important part in Lucentio’s charade. Tailor – Takes great pride in his work, only to be mocked by Petruchio.
Gremio/Grumio/Pedant/Widow: Gremio – The older, rich, comic, pedantic suitor to Bianca. Grumio – Petruchio’s servant, who exercises his wit, consequences be damned. Pedant – A scholar who gets lost in the details very easily. Widow – An outspoken woman who suffers no fools.
