About the project: SYNOPSIS: Theatre is thrilled to produce the world premiere of Jennifer Maisel’s compelling new drama, and winner of the 2025 Jewish Plays Project. Provenance is about the epic life of a single painting, a portrait, from the moment of its creation through its theft by the Nazis and all the lives shaped by the consequences of both acts. Built upon a unique theatrical structure that links these intimate stories to the grand arc of history, the play spans a century and crosses continents, from Germany in the early 1900s to New Jersey in 2007. A compelling new play that asks: How can one piece of art tear at the hearts of generations? Can what was lost ever be recovered? Winner of the 2025 Richard and Ellen Sandor Workshop Award, this will be a co-production with Palm Beach Dramaworks. Most roles except bit parts are understudied. PREPARATION: For Plays: Prepare two monologues, no more than two minutes total. For Musicals: Prepare either a brief song or 16 bars of a song and a one-minute contemporary monologue. An accompanist will be provided.
