An aspiring “creative” who believes he’s on the brink of recognition, performing under the persona “Muddy D” with unshakable confidence. Beneath the ego is a deeply vulnerable man forced to confront the gap between his self-image and reality—and decide whether to keep creating anyway.
Derek’s mother. Warm, practical, and grounded in reality, she genuinely cares about her son and has supported him throughout his life. She has witnessed his creativity since childhood and still holds onto that version of him, even if she no longer fully understands what he is trying to become.
A regular at the dive bar. Observant, blunt, and unintentionally harsh. She represents the outside world’s honest (and often dismissive) perception of Derek.
