Korean-Canadian A passive, timid and observant girl. A top player at her school table tennis team, she harbours a talent for the sport but never feels a huge ‘passion’ for it. She instead plays almost out of obligation to herself and her talents.
June’s ‘Rival’. The new transfer student in town who has an immense talent for table tennis. She is completely innocent and lives her own life, she has zero idea about how much she is affecting June and her playing at no one’s fault. Some might consider her a ‘natural gift’, even though she believes there isn’t much of a future in table tennis but continues playing anyway. This belief will cause a ripple effect in the ‘rivalry’ between June and Riley. A rivalry that only exists to June.
Korean-Canadian June’s semi-absent, unintentionally cold father. His wife left him and June when June was very young and that has left a scar in his heart. Instead of properly trying to rebuild his family and relationship with June, he’s turned elsewhere, looking for that acceptance from somewhere else. He finds it in another family, a young mother and her daughter.
A somewhat passionate coach on the floor but a pessimist in life. He believes he was made to do more, play in the big leagues but now he’s stuck coaching a team of students. It’s not that he doesn’t have any respect for them but there will always be a side of him that’ll feel regretful.
The foil for June. Also on the table tennis team, she is June’s only real friend, the one person she feels she can talk to honestly somewhat. Lily’s also the only one who will call her out on things and see through June’s quiet exterior, which June doesn’t even realize she needs but Lily does it anyway. She’s a lot more chatty but still remains incredibly observant, never one to stray away from details.
