About the project: "Neighbourly Neighbours" is a short political satire set in a quiet suburban neighborhood. The story follows Blue State America, a dishevelled, drunk man who stumbles across the street late at night to confess his love for Canada, his polite and reluctant neighbor. Claiming he’s leaving Red State America, his volatile and aggressive partner, Blue State, tries to convince Canada to take him in — but things quickly spiral out of control. As tensions rise, Quebec joins the confrontation, adding cultural and linguistic confusion to the mix. When Red State America gets involved, the situation devolves into chaos, with arguments about identity, sovereignty, and international boundaries escalating into absurdity. The film is a character-driven, dialogue-heavy comedy with strong political undertones. It relies on sharp timing, cultural references, and satirical portrayals of North American dynamics. Blue State America is a symbolic personification of liberal America. Dishevelled and drunk, he stumbles across the street late at night to confess his love for his neighbor, Canada and declare that he is leaving his volatile partner, Red State America. Well-meaning but arrogant and oblivious, he sees himself as enlightened, educated, and sophisticated, yet repeatedly demonstrates how little he actually understands about Canada or the world beyond himself.
Red State America is a symbolic personification of the conservative United States. Loud, volatile, and fiercely possessive, she is the explosive counterpart to her estranged partner Blue State America. When she sees him drunkenly declaring his love for their neighbor Canada, she erupts with jealousy, insults, and threats, escalating the situation into outright chaos.
Canada is a symbolic personification of Canada. She is in a tense marriage with her husband, Quebec. However, she is distressed to find that her well-meaning but ignorant neighbor, Blue State America, wishes to join her in marriage, which has drawn the wrath of his violent and psychotic wife, Red State America. Smart and quick on her feet, Canada always tries to talk her way out of tense and awkward situations politely.
