AAbout the project: "Alice, Alice!" is a fifteen-minute Japanese drama short film that, through the restrained and nuanced perspective of a housewife, tells a story of past trauma, dreams, and choices. Arisu, a timid housewife trapped in an oppressive marriage, has long abandoned her youthful dream of becoming an idol. When her husband tries to throw away a box of her old idol belongings, Arisu discovers a camcorder that triggers memories of Alice—a childhood phantom who shared the same dream but suffered severe abuse. Haunted by visions of Alice and fragments of the past, Arisu is drawn into a surreal theatrical world where she once again stands on stage as an idol, watched by a mysterious masked audience. As the boundary between memory and reality dissolves, Alice confronts Arisu with the truth she has tried to forget: the dream they once shared and the self Arisu buried in order to survive. Due to childhood trauma involving domestic violence, she has developed a habitual tendency to please others. She once aspired to become an idol who could freely sing and dance on stage, but yielded to social and practical pressures and chose marriage instead. However, she remains haunted by the lingering illusion of her former dream.
Must be Japanese or fluent in Japanese. Dance experience preferred. A young woman who is always dressed like an idol. She is a ghost from the past. Cheerful and slightly unhinged, she persistently tempts Arisu to confront her true inner self, attempting to summon her back to the stage.
Must be Japanese or fluent in Japanese Arisu’s husband, an ordinary employee at a small company. Self-centered and hypocritical, he embodies a typical patriarchal mindset. He skillfully shirks responsibility without shame, using seemingly gentle and soft-spoken language to manipulate his wife.
