Rate: LORT Non-Rep $1213 weekly minimum (LORT B) $889 weekly minimum (LORT D) Plus: health/pension/travel/lodging Additional info: Audition lunch 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Some roles will be understudied. CASTING NOTE: Tartuffe is a serious comedy. Actors with excellent language skills and experience with heightened text particularly Shakespeare are encouraged to audition. Actors who are playful, collaborative, and joyful with a generous spirit, good sense of humor, and proficient physical comedy skills are also encouraged to audition. PREPARATION: Please prepare one brief song OR one brief monologue in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring your headshot and resume. Orgon’s mother. Demanding and righteous. Completely under Tartuffe’s spell until the end of the play.
Husband of Elmire, father to Mariane and Damis, and son of Madame Pernelle. Under the influence of the hypocrite Tartuffe. Once he has committed himself to something, he tends to go to absurd extremes in both his words and actions.
Orgon’s second wife. A witty, fashionable, and reasonable woman. She is virtuous and devoted to her family. A woman of high society, she is also weary of scandal. The opposite of her husband in every way.
Orgon’s son. Hot-headed and quick tempered. He has no illusions about Tartuffe and reacts to his deceptions with threats of violence.
Orgon’s daughter. In love with Valère but is being forced by her father to marry Tartuffe. Innocent, and dutiful.
Betrothed to Mariane. Wealthy and young, he is deeply in love. Quick to take offense and is often his own worst enemy.
Orgon’s brother-in-law. A philosopher and serious thinker, calm and reasonable.
A charismatic and clever charlatan. Posing as a religious ascetic, he convinces Orgon and Madame Pernelle that he is devout and pious, but his hypocrisy is plain to the audience. An expert at exploiting others’ weaknesses for his own advantage.
Mariane’s maid. Though lower in social position, she is far wiser and wittier than her superiors.
Maid to the very domineering Madame Pernelle. Non-speaking role.
A bailiff. Threatens with politeness and good cheer, making him both amusing and terrifying.
A royal official sent to arrest Tartuffe.
