Gill is an actor; affable, guileless, working class, practical. Skeptical by instinct, impatient with rules he did not agree to, and prone to emotional volatility. Gill begins defensive and ironic, and gradually reveals a hunger to matter—to choose—to be seen. Also, he's funny.
The Stagehand is efficient, distracted, and mildly indifferent. He represents the machinery of theater—and fate—without malice. He is uninterested in the metaphysical stakes of the play. This is a supporting role, but pivotal to the arc of the drama.
