9 role s
Strong, regal presence with real authority. Hippolyta is a conquered queen, not a swooning bride. She should feel formidable, even dangerous. Titania requires the ability to shift between ethereal grace and genuine menace. Commands the stage in both worlds.
Theseus is law and order, firm but fair, a leader with weight behind his words. Oberon is his shadow self: manipulative, magnetic, used to getting what he wants. Has genuine presence and the ability to play both control and chaos.
The biggest comedic role in the show. Bottom has an enormous ego and zero selfawareness. He genuinely believes he could play every part better than anyone. Strong physical comedy chops and the willingness to go big when he's transformed into an ass.
A fun doubling: Egeus is the rigid patriarch who sets the whole plot in motion, while Quince is a harried, good-natured director just trying to keep his amateur actors from imploding. Think angry dad to frazzled artist.
Sharp and clever. Philostrate embodies order and restraint and is the court’s eye for what is appropriate. Puck is the opposite, delighting in chaos, mischief, and disruption. Strong physicality and excellent comic timing are essential.
Snout is sincere, literal, and proud of his contribution. Peaseblossom is gentle, attentive, and quietly magical. Grounded realism for one and then shift into the soft elegance of a fairy.
Snug is cautious and deeply afraid of getting things wrong. Mustardseed, by contrast, is bolder and carries a playful fairy confidence. Clear comic contrast and strong character commitment.
Starveling is understated, thoughtful, and committed despite often being overshadowed. Moth is quick, clever, and observant, with a sharp fairy wit. Subtle comedy and precise physical storytelling.
Smart, passionate, and emotionally exposed. Helena’s humor comes not from silliness, but from the collision of intensity and honesty. She loves deeply and feels rejection acutely. Strong emotional range, comedic timing rooted in truth, and the courage to be vulnerable.
