Acting Audition for Upcoming Plays

Alexandria, VA, United States
ID: 298403Exp: 12/8/2025
Description:

Looking to cast males and females for upcoming plays. Please see the details below. ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. About the project: 1. "Scenes From an Apocalypse" Arlene Abelman — wife, mother, and theatre director — braces for her 60th birthday amid a gathering apocalypse. An intimate slice-of-life portrait of a woman grappling for a toehold in an era of accelerating flux and burgeoning ambiguity. 2. "Close Your Eyes" As an autistic child enters his teenage years and becomes stronger and more difficult to control, a family struggles with the decision to institutionalize him. The play is largely set in the late 1960s and is told from the perspective of the family — the parents and a brother and sister. 3. "Blessed Thorn: The Excommunication of Baruch Spinoza" In 1656, 23-year-old Baruch Spinoza was excommunicated for life by the Jewish congregation in Amsterdam, the harshest punishment of its time. He is confronted by his half-sister, Rebekah, and his younger brother, Gabriel, who, by the terms of the edict, will never again be able to speak with him. The reason for Spinoza’s unprecedented exile remains unknown, but he went on to become one of the major philosophers of the Enlightenment and one of history’s greatest champions of religious freedom. 4. "Cakewalk" Early 1930. Georgia, in a makeshift changing room for performers. There is a mirror on the wall, a table and chair with three bows and lipstick on it, a suitcase on the floor, and a small clothes rack with a suit jacket. 5. "Rice, Sam" Sam Rice made a spectacular catch in the 1925 World Series. Or did he? Years later, on the eve of his induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame, a reporter tries to uncover the truth behind Rice’s infamous “catch.” 6. "Stand Naked in the River of Shame" In the summer of 1946, two young boys, escaping from their separate traumas, find each other at a secluded pond. But the world isn’t ready for their love, sending one running for his life and the other to his grave. Sixty years later, a dying old man returns to the pond to confront his decisions and face the ghosts of his past. Rate: Non-paid. Non-union. Additional info: Audition will consist of a prepared monologue and cold readings from the plays. Sides from the scripts will be provided at the audition. If interested, please apply.
