About the project: Project Synopsis: “Atlanta Law” is a suspense, thriller – drama showcasing the complicated life and career of criminal defense attorney Theodore “Ted” Johnson as he tries to serve his disturbed clients who are all on trial accused of heinous crimes, nurture his budding political career, scathe off the demons of his tumultuous upbringing and navigate life as a successful single man in the city of Atlanta. Ted Johnson grew up in an environment most wouldn’t survive in Tennessee. He grew up in a two-parent home where his mother dedicated her life to her children and her abusive husband who specialized in extramarital affairs. There is no wonder that Ted’s scope of relationships and sex are a bit skewed when he saw his father shoot his mistress in the face for coming to their family home and disrespecting his mother. He’s from a time when kids were seen and not heard, but now that he’s grown – Ted is making his way in the world and quickly gaining notoriety in the city of Atlanta for being the best defense attorney and making the impossible possible. Young, criminal defense attorney, savant. Ted is empathetic, soothing, intelligent and thoughtful all while being manipulative, randomly condescending, sexual, and riveting. He’s the perfect storm – worldly successful while being tortured by the innerworkings of his own existence and upbringing.
Ted’s assistant and the only woman in the city he isn’t actively trying to bed. She’s nurturing, organized and outspoken. She tells Ted like it is, whether he’s prepared or not. Rita is determined to do a great job despite the surmounting circumstances standing in Ted’s way with the increasing media frenzy surrounding his outlandish cases. She’s the perfect Robin to his Batman.
Ted’s spirited intern who is as naïve as they come. He operates in a world where everyone is innocent until proven guilty and believes whatever he’s told. He’s eager to learn and faster to jump to the wrong conclusions.
Ted’s paralegal who’s currently studying to pass the bar exam. She’s practical, void of fun and humor, but very smart and quick-witted.
Ted’s father, appears as apparition and for playing out of flashbacks. He’s tall, strikingly handsome and very no-nonsense. He has a different kind of confidence – one that emerged from hard work, surviving harsh conditions and knowing that no one was coming to save him. He’s stern and hard on his children and his wife. He gives what life has given him.
She’s an assistant district attorney and our moral compass. She’s bright, has an endearing smile and a growing conviction rate. It’s all sexual tension and gladiator-battling when Ted and Nicole face off in court. They have a growing friendship that parallels Trumps and Hillary Clinton’s, but they are two different sides of the same coin. She’s determined to stop Ted’s streak of superhero antics that are responsible for his burgeoning fanbase.
Ted’s good friend and confidant. He’s a county commissioner who’s been groomed to be a future Governor and whose only vice is being Ted’s friend, vicariously living through Ted’s antics and exploits. He’s a young father and husband creating and harboring a secret that seems to be eating him alive – emotionally. Warren is a great counterbalance for Ted and provides the emotional stability Ted emulates and hopes to sincerely create for himself.
Publicist that has made herself a fixture in Ted’s life. They’ve had some encounters that Mallory is parlaying into a full-blown public relationship. She leverages his political aspirations into an opportunity to pursue her personal goals with him. Ted goes along with it while entertaining himself with as many other women as possible. She’s notorious for building people up in public opinion, but that polarized energy is destructive when she feels Ted has humiliated her for the last time.
Young woman afflicted with sever multiple personality disorder. She’s currently standing trial after a deadly encounter with someone where one of her personalities killed him. She’s otherwise congenial and well-meaning, but is an obvious candidate for being institutionalized. One of Ted’s clients.
Black pastor and father of Misty. He is exhausted with efforts to maintain any sense of normalcy. Misty and her illness have been a lot to deal with and him and his wife would like nothing other than for Misty to become someone else’s problem.
Stunning black woman, known for her by-the-book convictions and court proceedings. Ted is drawn to her and they have been having relations for the past year. Not much conversation or dating – just physical activity.
Handsome, a very ‘traditional’ man who has been stepping out on his wife between bouts of physically abusing her. He’s charming, witty and has a propensity to having sexual encounters with 30-year-old women. He speaks his mind and could care less how that’s received and he believes the grown men are afforded certain privileges that shouldn’t be questioned.
Mr. George’s long-suffering wife. She’s made a name for herself professionally at the phone company and is well-liked and respected in the community which all seems to ‘bother’ her husband who’s always trying to ‘put her in her place’.
Naturally beautiful black woman who doesn’t take great care of herself. She’s a bit calculating in her conversation. She’s Mr. George’s adult daughter who hires Ted to defend her father on murder charges.
Sexy and a lil’ brash. She’s been having an affair with the very married Mr. George for a couple of months. She enjoys the weekend attention and the mind-blowing sex, she has no regard or respect for his marriage.
British female, who appears on different media outlets.
Atlanta talk radio host – he’s an older white gentleman with a distinctive Southern drawl. He’s known for his no-nonsense reporting.
District Attorney who’s made a name for himself locking up everyone remotely accused of crimes in the city of Atlanta. Kelly is a no nonsense, son of a ‘good ole boy’ who’s been educated by the best prep schools and is sickened by Ted’s mere existence. He disguises this will some good old fashion rivalry expressed in lighthearted banter and racial micro-aggressions.
Private Investigator hired by Ted to delve further into his clients’ past and his current case load. Louis is stealth, careful and extremely thorough.
The circuit court judge Ted appears in front of that has become immune to his court-room antics and make Ted step his game up as an attorney. Judge Reed is smart and has a plethora of knowledge and becomes an unwilling mentor for Ted as he notices the wear-and-tear Ted is showing as he progresses in his career.
Client, killed his best friend when they couldn’t agree on who to rob. Helped victim’s mother look for body he subsequently had buried under his house.
Lesbian who stabbed someone who spent her lover’s money. Victim bumped into her knife that was plunged so deep in his abdomen, it reached his spine.
Crackhead who killed his girlfriend. A black man accused of murdering his obese, white girlfriend in the South. Millsap is slightly out of touch with the reality we live in.
Old country pimp accused of murdering someone who ‘annoyed’ him. He’s spent a lifetime getting away with every crime imaginable and is now fighting for his freedom over a nuisance
