About the project: Set in the high-octane world of stock car racing, Love and an Oil Change follows a brilliant young female mechanic navigating a male-dominated industry. Despite her unmatched skill under the hood, she struggles to be taken seriously and yearns for the kind of romantic connection others seem to find so easily. This heartfelt and hilarious musical also explores four other intertwined love stories, blending fast-paced humor with genuine emotion. The show is family-friendly and will make history as the first musical to bring a NASCAR race to life on stage—all within a reading format! Lead Role Certified Master Mechanic Confident, sharp-witted, and principled, she’s a skilled racecar mechanic who thrives in the garage. She's a tomboy that is grease-streaked and fearless, she commands respect. Outside the shop, she transforms with stunning femininity, revealing unexpected beauty. Central to the story, she appears in most musical numbers and must have a powerful soloist voice capable of delivering a show-stopping ballad.
Lead Role A racecar driver with loud bravado in public but clumsy, earnest charm in private. He’s inept yet endearing, with a big heart and zero self-awareness. A comedic role requiring strong timing and physical humor. Must have solid vocal skills for multiple featured songs.
Supporting Role (pronounced Lou’-rain) A vivacious, full-figured woman with an infectious laugh and an unapologetic love for flirting. Louraine is Roni’s loyal best friend—fun-loving, boy-crazy, and never one to shy away from the spotlight. As the story unfolds, she undergoes meaningful growth, eventually embracing a deeper, more respectful approach to relationships.
Supporting Role Petite, gray-haired, and fiercely outspoken, Grandma Myrtle is a lively force despite her age. Married to Paw Paw, she’s sharp-tongued, full of sass, and always ready with a witty remark. A strong comedic role.
Supporting Role Curt is a full-figured, gregarious store manager with a big smile and an even bigger heart. Reassuring and affectionate, especially toward the women who feed him, he brings warmth and humor to every scene. Ideally a bass, as his featured number is a smooth, R&B-style song.
Supporting Role A pitman who works beneath the cars, is a sincere, sensible, and sometimes naïve Hispanic immigrant. Average in appearance but rich in imagination, he sees himself as a noble knight—an earnest belief that adds a comedic twist. Must speak Spanish and sing for a featured song.
Supporting Role A lazy, grungy hood technician with a sarcastic edge. He stays compliant to avoid jail but can't hide his negative, often biting opinions. A comedic role with sharp humor and rough charm.
Supporting Role A laid-back, good-natured redneck often found hanging out with his loyal dog, Bower. Buster is always on the lookout for easy handouts and freebies, seizing every opportunity life throws his way. Unapologetically flirtatious and full of charm, he brings plenty of humor to the story. Musically talented, Buster showcases his vocal skills in two featured songs.
