About the project: A depressed 19-year-old musician, admitted to a mental hospital, discovers that the true path to healing lies not in the institutional practices but in the raw wisdom of the patients who understand him better than anyone else. Broad Shoulders is a story of mental health, memory, and music. This MFA Thesis project is written and directed by Samson Ziegelman. Tentative shooting dates: mid-January. Supporting. European Descent. Sophie is Sonny's mother, she is the sweetest woman in the world but doesn't quite understand the significance and weight of mental illness; she wants to care for her son but doesn't know how to help him.

Supporting, Female. African Descent. *Do you have dance experience? Nicky is gifted at reading people. She is highly emotionally intelligent. She struggles with Bipolar and Is coping with the loss of her little brother. She expresses herself and her emotions through dance.

Supporting. European Descent. Lovy is a broken soul He struggles with substance addition and impulsivity. He has lots of first-hand experience in how destructive life can be. But he's still here, giving it another shot!

Supporting. Paul leads the group therapy sessions and is a source of wisdom. He is a great listener and has seen everything: the highs and lows, the mania and depression, the sane and insane, but he remains calm, cool, and collected.
