LEAD. A 4th generation Japanese Canadian, he’s a senior in high school, intelligent, gentle and loyal. However with the sudden loss of his grandfather, his only remaining legal guardian, Richard becomes filled with sadness and anger when he learns of the injustices his grandfather suffered.
LEAD. Japanese Canadian. Richard’s older cousin, a college dropout and the black sheep of the family. Despite all this, David would do anything for his family, even if he doesn’t like to show it. Although they have recently started drifting apart, David doesn’t want to lose his cousin and will do anything to keep their relationship strong.
LEAD. Japanese Canadian. Richard’s older sister who returns home from university to help with her grandfather’s funeral arrangements. Having been raised by her grandfather, she had to help out around the house from a young age and is almost like a mother to Richard.
SUPPORTING. Store owner for the past 20 years, having taken over from their own parents. Kind, but not always helpful. They’ve become complacent and are not always willing to put in the extra effort into customer service.
