Musician & Puppeteer Needed for Paid Summer Ensemble 2026

Additional information: Musicians in the Summer Ensemble will perform live music daily for passerby residents of Mississauga at various locations. They will also support creation of new puppet shows if required. This role involves interpreting musical compositions, improvising soundscapes, and collaborating with actors and puppeteers to enhance storytelling. In addition, they participate in professional development activities exploring the performing arts industry. Type of Engagement: Full time. Start Date: June 9th 2026. End Date: July 31st 2026. Tasks and Responsibilities: perform live music (vocal and/or instrumental); punctually arrive to rehearsals and performances; rehearse and perform live music to accompany theatrical or puppet performances; compose or arrange short musical pieces or sound cues as required; collaborate with the creative team to create and adapt music that supports storytelling; read and interpret sheet music, sound cues, or improvisational direction; synchronize music with onstage action, dialogue, and movement; explore sound design and the use of instruments, voice, and found objects to create atmosphere; maintain instruments and equipment in good working order if used; work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate artistic ideas clearly; improvise within a structured or devised performance; understand and follow musical and stage direction; actively participate in discussions and feedback sessions; This is a learning on the job role and will also entail the following requirements: watch videos of productions, acting exercises and other professional materials as required; with the help of a mentor learn how to evaluate professional theatre’s elements; participate in learning activities about professional companies (employers), funding bodies and grants; complete delegated tasks such as research or reports or articles in a timely matter; discuss and debate elements of professional productions and acting techniques; learn how to write and edit a blogpost under supervision and mentorship; writing blog posts as required. Puppeteers in the Summer Ensemble will manipulate different types of puppets, collaborate in creative work, and explore the intersection of acting, movement, and design. Puppeteers gain hands-on experience in puppet design and construction, and develop an understanding of how form and material influence character and movement. In addition to performing, Puppeteers also gain insight into the professional theatre and puppetry industry through mentorship, research, and reflection.
