Casting Performers for "The Women of Squirrel Run" Play
ONLY LOCAL TALENT WILL BE ACCEPTED. The company is holding auditions for play "The Women of Squirrel Run". Please see the details below. About the project: Squirrel Run is a small town of 1,500 people on the Ohio River. Time: April through August 1999. The story is a “slice of life” about a very diverse group of women who are willing to make sacrifices for their loved ones. These characters are all very different, but they find their strengths in the qualities they have in common. Rate: $500 stipend. Additional info: Non-union actors only. PERFORMANCE DATES: Feb. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14. Tech week: starting Feb. 2. Extra dress rehearsal is Feb. 12. Rehearsals will take place for the entire month of January, weekday evenings (starting Jan. 5th) from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. This ensemble cast requires singing. Looking for people with “natural” voices, so they will all blend well together. Please bring music that would be appropriate for the role you’re interested in. (B3 – F5) just turned 18. High school dropout who lives in a trailer park with her boyfriend. (Her family also lives there.) She’s very unhappy with her life, seeing the future of herself and her family as hopeless and wants to break out of this life of poverty. Very ambitious, she has big dreams that are unrealistic.
24: (A3 – D5) Traditional wife and mother, religious, raising her four small children with old-fashioned values. She is kind, gentle, and self-sacrificing. Married to a long-haul trucker. She works very hard but never complains, because she has the” highest calling in life.”
60s. (A3 – D5) Town postmistress/convenience store clerk. Her life revolves around an 89-year-old man. They are madly in love and are fortunate to be the “perfect fit.” She always does everything for him and is very content with her life.
60: (G3 – E5) School teacher, jogger, constantly doing things, Always helping others, never still. Like her name, she always has a positive, upbeat attitude. She loves life so much, and realizes how precious every day is, and wants to get every drop out of living.
85. (C4 – D5) Sweet and gentle personality, but has dementia and is a hypochondriac. She wanders around town in her own little world. Neighbors worry about her, and everyone looks after her. Best friend of Rhody since childhood.
85. (E4 -F5) Fragile-looking African-American woman whose appearance betrays her strong, sometimes outspoken character. She sits on her porch rocking chair, ready to visit with everyone. People often stop by for her advice. Her life is centered around her church and reading the Bible.
