About the project: Godspell is a musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, featuring a group of people who help Jesus teach his lessons through parables, games, and songs. It’s known for its eclectic mix of musical styles, from pop to vaudeville, and for its focus on themes of community, love, kindness, and acceptance. Additional info: What to Prepare For Your Audition: Please bring a positive attitude, a bottle of water, and a list of any conflicts you have between auditions and February 15 DANCE/MOVEMENT: Dress comfortable and ready to move, with appropriate footwear. If you have “special skills,” please be prepared to display them. As we intend to approach this show in an ensemble-built manner, some personal special skills may be incorporated into the production. READING: Some actors may be asked to “cold read” selections from the show. (Cold Readings: an impromptu reading of a script without prior knowledge of the selection) MUSIC: Please prepare TWO of the song cuts listed below. To be considered for Jesus or John the Baptist/Judas, you must select at least one of their songs. Bring a strong sense of characterization and storytelling into your audition pieces. (You may be asked to participate is vocalization for range)

Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. A natural leader and encourager. High energy, charming, funny, gentle, but firm.
Exhibits attributes of both Biblical figures, serving simultaneously as Jesus’ right-hand person and most ardent follower, yet also as the doubter who begins to question and rebel. The most serious and intellectual of the group, but with a good sense of physical comedic timing. Primary Songs: “Prepare Ye” and “All for the Best”
Not the brightest in the bunch, a bit slow to pick up the joke. A sense of innocence and sweetness. Primary Song: “All Good Gifts”
The comedian and class clown. Good at voices and imitations. Primary Song: “Light of the World”
Open and sweet, but maybe a bit tough on the exterior. The first of the group to commit. Primary Song: “Day by Day”
The confident one; the show-off. She frequently volunteers to be a part of the games, but doesn’t always understand what’s going on. Primary Song: “Bless the Lord”
The shy one, maybe a little slow to get moving, but then commits 110%. Has a paternal warmth to her. Primary Song: “By My Side”
Sassy and cynical, the urbanite. Tries to be “sexy” or more grown-up. Primary Song: “Turn Back, O Man”
Also a class clown, goofy and a cut-up. Primary Song: “Learn Your Lessons Well”
