The eldest Guttridge sibling. Impulsive, volatile, and hardened by a turbulent past of rehab stints and reckless living. Though he masks his exhaustion with bravado, Cal is tormented by the fear that he shares the same darkness as his brother. He removes himself from the family, not out of rejection, but out of protection. If he isolates himself first, no one else can. A raw, layered role balancing boldness and vulnerability.
The youngest Guttridge sibling, and the shooter himself. He was once gentle and imaginative, but years of alienation, online rabbit holes, and hate-filled mania have warped his worldview. The film explores Sammy as a memory, haunting those left behind. His presence must feel both human and monster; the actor should convey the tragedy of someone who could have been saved, but wasn't. A challenging, psychological role demanding subtlety, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
The matriarch of the family. Marla is a trusted voice of guidance, especially to her son, Colton. But beneath her strength, cracks are showing: the onset of memory issues causes her to falter, slipping in and out of clarity. She keeps up a facade of selflessness and compassion that deflects any blame people could put on her. A role of quiet dignity, resilience, and heartbreaking fragility.
Head Chanter at Lavira Baptist High's affiliated church. A kind-hearted, charismatic presence with a deep faith that can put him at odds with others. Paul believes in universal forgiveness, even for the most condemned. A role for an actor who can balance warmth with conviction.
The children's mother. Hollowed out by grief, Bonnie has become detached and numb. Unable, or unwilling to reconcile her son with the shooter he became. She mourns the boy she lost long before the tragedy. Indifferent on the surface, but carrying deep subconscious guilt, Bonnie embodies denial, repression, and the quiet collapse of a mother's love.
Once a steady, faith-driven man of God, now consumed by anger and self-hatred. Colton has unraveled since the shooting, harboring an anger at the world-refusing to believe that Sammy had something dark within him. His erratic behavior and simmering rage mask profound grief and guilt. Though his loyalty to Sammy unsettles his family, his pain is undeniable.
