"Pride and Prejudice" Stage Play Needs Men and Women
Auditions for play "Pride and Prejudice". Seeking actors. Please see the breakdown below. About the project: Synopsis: Get ready for a wildly funny, high-energy take on the classic romance of Lizzy and Darcy. Kate Hamill’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice leans all the way into the original novel’s irreverence and laugh-out-loud humor—this is decidedly not the BBC. Think Bridgerton-meets-slapstick, with fast-paced dialogue, bold physicality, and a flexible, colorful world where anything can happen. At its heart, this is a story about love, vulnerability, and the shame we feel in revealing who we truly are—until we break free of it. We’re seeking a cast that’s ready to play, take risks, and bring unfiltered joy to this timeless tale. The script demands energy, speed, and a fearless embrace of the ridiculous. Let’s have some fun—and bring Austen’s wit, warmth, and wicked sense of humor to brilliant life. 10 roles
(Lead). The second eldest Bennet sister. Clever, spirited; can be sharp-tongued. Gets flustered, which makes her klutzy. Prides herself on good judgement. Very very scared of marriage, after absorbing the lessons of her parents’ marriage.
(Lead). One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self- control and good judgement. Dreamboat, but doesn’t know it (okay, maybe he knows it just a little bit).
(Support). The actor cast will play all three roles, the obvious and not-so-obvious villains and thorns in Lizzy’s side. Mr. Collins: A pedantic, obtuse man. The original mansplainer. Rector of Lady Catherine. Mr. Wickham: An unfairly handsome and charming gentleman. Probably a sociopath. Raised with Darcy. Miss Bingley: A very rich, very beautiful young woman. Fancies herself witty.
(Support). The matriarch of the Bennet family. Mostly a silly woman, of mean understanding and variable temper. Hypochondriac; when she’s upset, she fancies that she’s dying. The business of her life is to get her daughters married (well). She traumatizes her family with some regularity.
(Support). The actress cast will play both roles. Jane: Late 20s – early 30s. The eldest and most beautiful Bennet daughter. Kind, idealist, diffident. Always tries to do the right thing. Miss DeBourgh: Lady Catherine’s daughter; a gremlin. Probably allergic to the sun. Underneath all her veils, she may be covered in scales.
(Support). The patriarch of the Bennet family. Finds amusement in absurdity; often looks for respectable escape from the chaos of his family life. Can be somewhat apathetic; probably a bit depressed, under everything. Enjoys antagonizing. Disappointed in marriage.
(Featured). Loves the world and the world loves him. Mr. Darcy’s particular friend. Almost literally a dog.
(Featured). The actress cast will play both roles. Lydia: Teens to early 20s. The youngest Bennet. Lively, prone to imitating others’ behavior and eavesdropping. Lady Catherine: Patrician Caesar-meets-drill sergeant.
(Featured). The third Bennet girl. Violent and dark undertones; prone to pedanticism and sulking. A dark goth Brontë character trapped in an Austen world. Coughs to get attention, or to make a point; may fancy that she is dying.
(Featured). A practical girl with a good sense of humor.
