About the project: Step into the seedy, smoky underworld where clowns gather when the greasepaint fades and the spotlight goes dark. Clown Bar, by Adam Szymkowicz, is a dark comedy that blends crime noir with slapstick absurdity. Full of colorful characters, sharp dialogue, and outrageous antics, it’s an immersive play that pulls the audience right into the gritty world of clown gangsters, love, and betrayal. Clown Bar is recommended for mature audiences because of strong language and themes. Additional info: Seeking a diverse ensemble of actors with strong comedic instincts and physicality. Looking for actors to bring both humor and absurdity to this unique theatrical experience. What to Expect: Auditions will include some clown improv exercises in the form of a short, comedy routine to showcase your physicality, spontaneity, and comic timing. For this routine, you’ll be given a comic prompt and ask you to improvise/play it out in your own style. Directors will also do cold readings from the script. Sides will be provided at the audition. Please bring a current resume and headshot. Important Notes on Content and Safety: Clown Bar is an immersive, dark comedy that takes place in a gritty underworld where clowns live on the edge. The play contains references to violence, murder, and guns, and actors will be asked to embrace heightened physicality, stylized stage violence, and moments of audience interaction. It also has audience interaction built into the performance. While the play is irreverent and comedic, directors take actor safety and psychological well-being seriously. Any moments involving intimacy, physical touch, or simulated violence will be approached with care, using consent-based rehearsal practices and clear boundaries.
