18 roles
Ruler of Rome; a bit of a conservative lean, or at least of the old-guard of Rome. As any leader, there are varying opinions of his character – some find him to be the greatest ruler of all, some a tyrant. He is killed by conspirators and then haunts them from beyond the grave.
Caesar’s wife; more of a trad-wife than a raging feminist, she loves her husband and fears for his safety. A believer of prophecies and signs, she fears the gods and possibly with good cause.
Lives and works in the house. Brings some unfortunate prophecies to Caesar the night before his murder.
A Roman Senator, a leader among his peers, best friends with Caius Cassius. He wants what is best for Rome and truly believes he knows what that is. He is progressive, seeing his wife as his partner and holds deep friendships and morals that steer his course.
Brutus’ wife; a bold and outspoken woman. She is his equal in every way, possibly even his better, and they both know it. Portia pushes Brutus to be a better man and works to bring comfort and care to her household.
Servant to Brutus and Portia. He is loyal and steadfast. He believes in Brutus’ vision for Rome and follows him willingly into battle.
A Roman Senator; best friend to Brutus, but a loyal and passionate friend to all. He has a vision of a better Rome, with Brutus at the head, and believes wholeheartedly in his friend’s capacity to lead. He builds the conspirators’ plot, helps to organize them around Brutus, and impassions them to fight for what they believe in.
A Roman Senator; second in command in every way. This is both a blessing and a curse for one as ambitious as he is. He approaches most of life acting first and thinking after.
A Roman Senator; logistics is his thing. He ensures things are on time, that plans are well executed and that people are where they need to be to get the job done. When this skillset fails him, it does at a great cost.
A Roman Senator; Level headed and the relatively calm one among the group. He is measured in his responses and it makes him an important confidante of Brutus’ when his relationship with Cassius is tenuous.
A Roman Senator; A bit of a firebrand and a livewire. He is closest to Cassius and amplifies all Cassius’ beliefs in himself, going just a bit further to the extreme of his feelings than is possibly called for.
A Roman Senator; Loyal to Caesar as Caesar is to him, and then to Octavius Caesar after his death. He is a skilled orator and understands how to move people with his words. He believes, like Brutus, that he wants what is best for Rome. In many ways, they are two sides of the same coin.
A soldier in Octavius’ army and a key messenger as they approach Rome and lead into battle.
Julius Caesar’s great-nephew and adopted son. He is off at war when Caesar is killed but quickly returns to Rome to rule in his absence. He fights to regain command of Rome against the conspirators and their armies.
The poet – The embodiment of the Gods; The prophecy of the play; One who sees and knows and is ultimately destroyed; They are not fully human, nor fully divine.
